Theater „Empire of Puppets“

Czech House Jerusalem together with the Czech Centre Tel Aviv and the Embassy of Czech Republic in Israel cordially invites you to the amateur theater „Empire of Puppets“ at the International Arts and Crafts Fair in Jerusalem. Part of the presentation will be also a short performance and workshop for puppet manufacturing. The annual fair, called Hutzot Hayotzer, is one of the Jerusalem’s highlights of the summer, if not the entire year. The festival is a great place to get inspired and purchase art and functionally designed items. Dozens of Israeli and world artists meet at this event, showcasing their creations, selling their crafts and allowing thousands to take in what creative has Jerusalem and the world to offer. The fair is held outdoors at the Sultan's Pool, one of Jerusalem’s most special venues, at the foot of the Old City. This valley and its surrounding areas sit adjacent to the permanent artist colony Hutzon Hayotzer, which gave the fair its name. Visitors can see craft work from watches to hammocks to paintings, often being sold by the original artists, and much more. The festival includes nightly live concerts and dance performances by popular Israeli artists, as well as many food stands and workshops scheduled throughout.

The amateur theater „Empire of Puppets“

The amateur theater „Empire of Puppets“ was founded by artist and sculptor Vojtěch Sucharda in 1920 in Prague. Since 1928 the theater is located in the building of the Prague city library.

The puppet theater performs not only for the children but also for adults. The repertoire is mostly based on classic fairy tales performed in a contemporary adaption for the young audience.

The ensemble consist only from amateur puppeteers. However the theater is cooperating also with professional puppeteers and with intrepeter into czech sign language and therefore several performance are also for deaf audience.

„Give me the sausage“

The comedy is based on a French puppet dramaturge Louis Edmond Duranty. The main charachter „Paňáca“ has long been fighting with everyone about a saussage before he finally ends up in a crate and the saussage eats the dog.

The puppets were made and the script was prepared by František Valena
